30 miles (of which only 15 were paved), 11 flats, many dogs, lots of gravel, roads that didn't require speed limits, a cow spooked and running from 11 cyclists riding through their fields, rear wheel needs trued again, and a town limit sign sprint to finish it off = A summary of the Rock Creek/Roubaix ride that Jim Behrens coordinated this year. Crappy describes the roads, the ride was not crappy.
This was my first year attending and I luckily slept in too long to still make the 1 hr drive and 9am start for the Covered Bridge race so instead made the 30 min drive to Rock Creek. I am glad I did, not only was the ride a classic but the 10 others that showed made the time even better and having a support vehicle made it almost seem pro. What a perfect lead-in to the racing season: a no stress, unique ride along new roads that kept everyone thinking. Can't wait for the 2011 ?/Roubaix ride. Now looking forward to next weekend with RATL on Saturday and Covered Bridge on Sunday, lets hope for dry weather.
I am glad you clarified that!
